sock clubs

As some of you already know . . I am a member of this year's Rockin' Socks Club via Blue Moon Fiber Arts. However, if you're an avid sock knitter (as I soon hope to be) then you'll want to get in on this one ASAP:

Sign up now for Sundara Yarn 's The Petals Collection Sock Club for Summer/Fall 2007. I know, I know . . not another sock club . . but seriously - this one is NOT to be missed!!! These yarns are virtually impossible to get . . she sells out immediately after posting her stock. She's just opened the list up for additional members. Right now she has upped the number to 400 and currently had 370 spots filled. She's assuming that not all will re-sign, so I'd hurry if I were you!! I've already signed up so one of those spots is taken -- BAH!! ;P

I would like to take a moment here to state my overall policy on choosing whom to buy items from. I find yarns I love . . then I look at the shop. Is it individually owned? Is this a woman-owned company? Does this person put love/pride/beauty into their work? I typically and usually avoid larger sized companies who just crank out volume with absolutely no regard for their buyers. I pick and choose carefully. I wholeheartedly support the stay-at-home mom who works from her kitchen or the "one woman show" who has a full-time career but decides to love her hobby enough to share her goods with others. To me, supporting home workers is extremely important. I hope that you will . . and do . . feel the same. Please support your LYS, individual owners and crafters, and anyone out there with a dream and the heart to pursue it.

[Note: there is an announcement on the home page of BMFA that the mediumweight yarns will be back in stock in April.]

Hellooo! Isn't that cotton dishcloth yarn the best?! I've so got to find out where she got her little hands on it. It's so different. And yes, when you can't join a club, make your own darn it!! haha!!

Em:

Thanks for the update! I'll be checking this out immediately- I'm a sock-addict- some might say it's a problem, I say it's dedication. Of course I keep saying I can't join one more thing, but this sounds like it's more about receiving and less about productivity ;-)!
I love your criteria for a shop, very wise I think. If you're interested in natural body and bath products check out http://www.prairielandherbs.com/ they make lovely goods and it's a mother-daughter owned shop which I think is fabu.
Glad to meet you out in the world wide web!

I heard about the Sundara sock club last year from Pischi but it was closed. Thanks for the heads up that it's open again. I'm waiting to hear about Scout's Indie Swag and if I'm out this go round, I'm definitely in for Sundara.

Btw, I worked exclusively on double points until about a month agao for socks. You will love both Magic loop and circulars...I cam help when we meet up on Sat. Have a great day!

Awww....that is the nicest post about SAHM's and individual artisan's...that was really cool of you to post that :)

You had a question about the Mists of Avalon project...I'm co-hosting a KAL (you can find the link on my sidebar) and we're reading/re-reading the book and everyone is doing a project. I wish sign-up's were still open for you-they ended on the 5th, because there are prizes at the end. So far, it's been pretty good participation! Hope you're having a great weekend!
