The weather here in Tampa, FL this weekend has been nothing short of absolutely perfect. John and I have been out both days for walks along the Upper Tampa Bay Trail . . and have been relaxing and enjoying ourselves. I hope that wherever you are you're also having a good weekend!
I've finally begun my first Chevron Scarf. Yes, I've hopped on the bandwagon and decided it was time to put in my own color combinations. This first one I've decided to gift to John's sister for Christmas. Yes I know that it's only the first day in April . . . but I'm trying to be good this year and start my holiday knitting early. (Let's see how long that lasts, eh?) What I also decided to do was to knit the little pouches on the cover of Last-Minute Knitted Gifts (which is where the pattern for this Chevron Scarf comes from, pg. 120-1) and roll up the scarf and put them in the pouches as the "wrapping." That will just be too cute!!
I've used STR in heavyweight, Covelite for A and Fairgrounds for B (see pattern for details). I spent some time trying to decide which should be A and which B . . and in the end I decided to make the darker color my main color so that the brighter colors of Fairgrounds would literally "pop" and stand out. I think that had I done it the other way around, the focus would have been on the darker colors and the brighter colors would've been lost. I really think this has a more dramatic effect.
In working the pattern, I have to say that it's really not as difficult as the knitted object looks. Before I went over the pattern I really had it in my head that this must be a very involved thing to knit. Why I love it now is because the results are so pretty . . . yet the pattern is based simply on one pattern row that is super easy. It's a nice alternative to just a plain, flat scarf . . . but a simple enough pattern for a novice to pick up. I'd recommend this as a fun and relaxing knit for any level of experience.
An additional fun component of this project is coming up with the color combo. If you haven't been to the Flickr group for the Chevron Scarf . . . then I suggest that you head on over and take a look at all the beautiful colors!
