pretty pointy sticks

I've been meaning to do a post about these . . but I'm glad my procrastination has paid off, at least in this case.

A few months ago I came across a website that sells handmade knitting needles called Books, Yarn & More. I was intrigued . . but then came across the page with the images of the different woods and needles that are offered. Suffice it to say that at that exact moment I gasped so loudly that, I swear, I sucked all the air in the room into my lungs!! I have never seen needles as lovely as this. These are heirlooms . . to be treasured and passed down through the family. If you love knitting and hold everything you do dear to your heart . . then you feel the same way I do about these. We spend all of our time ooohing and aaahhhhing yarn and gushing about all the stuff we're making . . . but we rarely go outside our Addi's to find anything of greater value.

Here's some pics of what I've purchased so far, more to come:

I purchased the top two sets a couple of months ago and just received the US13 and US4 dpns today. The top-most needles are made of Montana Mountain Tulip Wood, while the remaining needles are Montana Mountain Cardinal or "blood wood."

Here's a close-up of the tops of the needles. Notice the quality in workmanship -- unbelievable.

If you're looking for quality and priceless additions to your knitting essentials, then look no further. The man who makes these needles by hand, Sam, will send along a nice little note in with your order. Honestly, these pictures don't even do them justice. Holding them in your hands . . you can feel just how perfect they are. I couldn't think of anything better to splurge on or ask for for a holiday or birthday gift. And as always, NO I'm not getting anything out of this . . . I didn't even let the shop owners know I was making a blog post about them. I hope they don't mind!!

My god, they're gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing!

Wow those are really beautiful!

Secret sock pal:

Oh those are GORGEOUS. I see they'll do custom orders too as I would love some more 5" DPNs in a more sturdy wood although maybe any wood at 2 - 2.5mm isn't very sturdy!

Oh no...I must go check these needles out now. Great enabling post! Please bring next time we meet up.

Those ARE pretty pointy sticks! They actually are beautiful....Will you actually knit with them, or use them for decoration?
I don't knit with straight needles, but I sure could see those poking out of a pretty vase!

What lovely needles and what super presents for a knitter they would be! Thanks for that link!

Emy:

Another source for some gorgeous needles and crochet hooks is Sonshapes - www.sonshapes.com. They're in San Jose and I've seen their stuff at Stitches and it's just stunning.
