I finished my socks this past Saturday. I'm so glad they were done on time! I sincerely hope that the person I knit them for likes them as much as I do . . .
The only thing I'm wondering is . . . I knit these toe-up and I did not weave in the ends at the top. The reason being: I'm not too sure I'm 100% happy with my bind off, however, I could not come up with a different way to finish them off and keep them "stretchy." The first time I bound off I did a regular bind off but they were too tight. So, I took the advice of a friend (thanks Kathleen!) and I knit the second last row with a yo in between each stitch. Then I bound off in the regular fashion. This did give them some stretch, but now they seem a bit too loose at the top. *sigh* So, I left the yarn at the end unwoven in and I'm going to include the remainder of the skein in the package. I was thinking that if she wanted to fix the top . . or had a favorite bind off method . . then she had the chance to do a little fixing. I'm not sure if this is appropriate. Would you send them this way . . or am I being somewhat of a jerk for not completely "finishing" them?
This is my first pair of completed socks and I really hope she likes them. I also hope I wouldn't be rude or anything by sending them to her this way. What do you all think?

I just saw your lovely socks on Amy's blog. Wow! She loves them, as anyone would. They're awesome.

I think it would be okay to send them that way, especially if you include a note explaining why.
My favorite BO for the tops of socks (this week, anyway, hehe) is the sewn bind off. At the end of the last round, you'll measure out yarn to reach about 4 times around the top (this is one where you absolutely need to make sure you have enough yarn). Then thread that onto a tapestry needle, and *go into the first two stitches on the needle purlwise, then back through the first stitch on the needle knitwise. Drop that stitch off.* Repeat between *s until you're done.
It's a fantastic bind-off for toe-up socks, nice and neat and fabulously stretchy too.
